Register for a Webinar – Trauma-Sensitive Student Support During School Closures: Practical Strategies for Helping Caregivers Help Kids

On Friday, March 20, 2020 at 1-2 pm CDT, I will be hosting a *free* webinar with Brookes Publishing to help school leaders and educators help caregivers support students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closings across the nation.

Join us to learn how to help all youth during this stressful time. I will teach you about common stress responses for children and adolescents along with giving tips for how to give support. Many materials will be introduced during the webinar, and you will be given *free* access to them at the end.

Please note that all the activities I’ve created are appropriate for youth of all ages, including sibling groups, and can be used as part of home-based SEL instruction if desired (although no one has to approach their use in this way). School leaders are welcome to distribute the materials along with encouragement for caregivers to consider using them at home. I have included SEL competencies along with specific directions and downloadable handouts for each of the eleven activities to assist leaders who make this choice. Any school personnel who go this route are encouraged to print and distribute the materials to families so that access is equitable. Of course, the activities do not have to be approached this formally. Anyone can use all or part of the activities in whatever manner feels helpful to them. Having as much choice and agency in our lives is important for all of us at a time like this when so much is outside of our control.

Here’s a sneak peek at one of the activities I will be introducing. This particular one was not my idea originally. It’s a strategy counselors have been using a long time with kiddos. Any guesses as to what it is? Leave your guesses in the comments!

Without further ado, let’s get you ready to join us! You do need to register for the webinar on Friday. Even if you can’t join us live, still register now so that you can view the webinar later.

Please share and help spread the word. Everyone is welcome including school leaders, educators, parents or other caregivers, and anyone else who cares for youth.

See you soon! ~ Ms. Jen
